Print anything you can design on the OctaveLight 3D Printer, then cast it in any metal you choose. 


The Octave Light R1 uses the same technology as your local digital cinema, namely a Texas Instruments Digital Micromirror Device (DMD).  
Each DMD has over 2 million pixels offering xy resolutions of

 30, 40, 50 or 70 microns with respective 



  • 57.6 x 32.4 x 120 mm high in the 30 micron model
  • 76.8 x 43.2 x 155 mm high in the 40 micron model
  • 96.0 x 54.0 x 204 mm high in the 50 micron model
  • 134.4 x 75.6 x 204 mm high in the 70 micron model

Smaller items can be printed under larger ones. This 30µ build plate (57.6 x 32.4 mm) is holding 2 large rings, 5 smaller rings, 4 spirals 3.8 mm wide and 2 dental caps.  A petal on the right hand ring is 5 mm wide. The supports are 1.15 mm. The narrower supports are 0.8 mm wide with points that simply snap off.





Perfect focus is achieved by ultra precision stepping motors controlled by a laser rangefinder accurate to 3 microns (µ).

The layer height (Z axis) can be set at from 15µ to 120µ

The xy resolution is as low as 30µ x 30µ up to 70µ x 70µ

Exposure times per layer are continuously variable in milliseconds


Open Source Resins

Octave Light supplies 3 in-house resins or you can also use 3rd party resins. 



Despite what competitors say about DLP projectors; the voxels (3D pixels) are square xy in this printer, not oblong and they do not distort towards the edge. By contrast the printers that use a single round laser of e.g. 140 µ diameter have to shine it from a single central point guided by a moving mirror. Now shine a torch (flashlight) at a wall straight and you see a circle. Shine it at an angle and you see an oval.   

The Texas instruments DLP has over 2 million mirrors that point virtually straight down onto the build plate. The round laser dot is 17.1 times larger than a 30x30µ Octave light pixel. Form your own opinion!




The resin vat does not need to be replaced.

There is no film that needs to be tensioned or replaced.
No separation stress forces on the model, unlike in bottom up printers it remains fixed to build plate from beginning to end. 
Each image slice is projected directly onto the surface of the resin and model from above; without diffusion through the  bottom of the vat 
No manual refocusing. 



Simply connect your computer to the Octave Light R1 with the supplied cables 
Open your STL file in the RI software, add supports in the OctaveLight software or import already supported models.   
Position your model within the build plate dimensions 
Set layer height and exposure time per layer 
Load the tank containing your chosen resin. Use the laser controlled rangefinder software to check horizontal alignment. 
Start the print and after a few exposures the R1 software will tell you the expected duration and finish time for your print
